Inspections without internet — how offline support works

Lue suomeksi →

Equipment inspections happen in places where internet connectivity does not always work. Basements, rooftops, industrial halls, construction sites, field locations. If an inspection system requires a constant connection, it is useless in exactly the situations where it is needed most.

Kuviq works fully offline. This article explains how it works in practice.

Why offline support is essential

Many cloud-based systems assume that internet connectivity is always available. In reality, inspections take place:

In these situations, the inspector reverts to paper — writes notes by hand and enters the data into the system later. That means double work, delays, and a risk of errors.

How Kuviq’s offline support works

Kuviq stores everything locally on the device. When the inspector opens the app — whether there is internet or not — all necessary data is available:

The inspector’s workflow is identical regardless of connectivity. They select the asset, complete the inspection template, take photos, and save the results. Everything is stored in the device’s local memory.

Synchronisation happens automatically

When the inspector returns to an area with internet connectivity, Kuviq synchronises the data automatically. The inspector does not need to do anything — the app detects the connection and sends locally stored inspections to the server.

If the connection drops during synchronisation, the process continues automatically when the connection returns. No data is lost.

This means:

Practical example

An inspector goes to a basement level to inspect technical equipment. There is no mobile signal in the lift shaft.

They open Kuviq on their phone. Scan the asset’s QR code. The asset details and inspection template open — offline. They complete the inspection, take three photos, and mark one item as failed.

The failed item creates a corrective action, which waits for synchronisation.

The inspector returns to the office. The phone connects to WiFi. Kuviq synchronises the inspection, photos, and corrective action automatically. The supervisor sees the results and the corrective action in their dashboard.

The entire process is, from the inspector’s perspective, identical to how they would do an inspection online.

PWA — no app store installation

Kuviq is a PWA (Progressive Web App), installed directly from the browser. This means:

The PWA architecture enables offline functionality without the inspector needing to understand the technical background. The app simply works — with or without a connection.

Who needs offline support

Offline support is a critical feature for organisations where inspections take place:

If inspections are only done in offices or places where internet connectivity is always good, offline support is not essential. For everyone else — it is.
