QR codes in equipment inspections: scan and see the full history

An inspector’s day often starts the same way: find the right asset in the system, confirm it is the right one, open the inspection template, and begin. When there are dozens — or hundreds — of assets, just finding the right one takes time.

A QR code removes this step entirely. Scan the code on the asset, and all necessary information is open in seconds.

How QR codes work in Kuviq

A QR code can be generated for every asset in the Kuviq dashboard. The code is printed and physically attached to the asset — as a sticker, laminated label, or metal plate.

When an inspector scans the code with their phone, Kuviq opens directly to that asset’s page. The view includes:

• Asset details — name, type, location, identifier
• Inspection history — all previous inspections in chronological order
• Open corrective actions — if the previous inspection found deviations
• Next inspection date — when the inspection is next due
• Photos — visual documentation of the asset’s condition

The inspector can start a new inspection directly from the same view.

What this changes in practice

The right asset, immediately. No browsing, no searching, no “which one is this.” A QR code is an unambiguous identifier that always points to the correct asset record.

Inspection history in the field. The inspector sees previous inspection results before starting their own. If the last inspection noted wear — they know where to focus attention.

Fewer errors. When the inspector does not manually select an asset from a list, the risk of inspecting the wrong asset is eliminated. A scan always points to the correct target.

Faster start. Starting an inspection speeds up significantly. Scan, glance at the history, inspect. No preparation work.

Setting up QR codes

Setup is straightforward:

1. Generate QR codes. In the Kuviq dashboard, a unique QR code is generated for each asset.
2. Print. QR codes can be printed on a regular printer. Lamination or a weather-resistant sticker is recommended for outdoor and wet environments.
3. Attach. Place the sticker on the asset or in its immediate vicinity. Position it so scanning is easy — not above eye level or in a cramped space.

A QR code is permanent. It does not change even when the asset’s data is updated in the system. The code always points to the same asset record.

QR codes and offline

QR codes also work in offline mode. When an inspector scans a code without internet connectivity, Kuviq opens the asset details from local storage. The inspection can be completed normally, and the data synchronises when connectivity returns.

This means the benefit of QR codes is preserved even in places where internet connectivity does not work.

Who benefits most from QR codes

• Organisations with many assets. The more assets, the more time is spent finding the right one. QR codes eliminate this step.
• Multi-location organisations. An inspector can work at different locations without needing to know every asset — a scan tells them everything.
